Great Explorations 

Session I of GE is from Sept 15-Oct 31, 2008. Clubs available are: Lego League, Book Club, Babysitting Certification, Digital Photography, Humane Society, Fun Fridays and Tutoring.

Washington Middle School and BHK Child Development Board is proud to be offering Great Explorations again this year. The program was launched in January 2004 and gives students the opportunity to participate in a variety of after school activities, as well as providing tutoring and homework assistance.  Hands-on learning, field trips, presentations, wellness, technology, and recreation are emphasized in our after school clubs.

Great Explorations is a grant-funded program that is currently running in five area schools.  The grant is part of the “No Child Left Behind” Act which proposes to improve academic achievement for all students. Great Explorations meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday after school and runs in eight week sessions.  Session III clubs run from Feb 5 - March 30.

Various Explorer Clubs have been held throughout the sessions. A few of the favorites are: Drama, Humane Society Volunteers, Fly Fishing, XC Skiing, Mentoring, Journalism and Archery.  Club offerings change with each session, so check with the site coordinator to see what is currently be offered.

Registration materials are delivered to homeroom classes before each session starts, and are always available outside of Mrs. Crouch's office or from the site coordinator.

Community members are encouraged to share a talent, craft, or skill with the students in the middle school.  If you have time available between 4:30-5:30 p.m. during the week, and are interested in the after school programming please contact the site coordinator.

A Great Exploration Site Committee meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 3:45 in Room 308 of WMS to discuss the after-school program. Parents and community members are welcome to attend.
